Arlie Kubitz

Arlie Kubitz, 98, of Caledonia, MN, died Friday, January 23, 2004 at The Lutheran Home, Caledonia. He was born September 6, 1905, in Jefferson Township, Houston County, to Charles and Mary (Dehning) Kubitz. Arlie attended school in Winnebago Valley and one year of high school in New Albin, IA. In the late 1920s and 1930s, Arlie pitched baseball for the Jefferson Ridge Baseball team. On June 18, 1930, he married Ida Moe at the Immanuel Lutheran Church Parsonage in Caledonia and they have been married over 73 years.

Arlie farmed for many years in the Winnebago Valley which was his favorite place to be. He also served on the rural school board and the Jefferson Town Board. After he sold the farm in 1961, Arlie worked with the section crew of the Milwaukee Road. On November 15, 1996, Arlie and Ida moved to Roseview Court in Caledonia. Through the years, Arlie enjoyed playing cards and dancing. He also enjoyed walking and continued to go for long walks well into his 90s.

Survivors include his wife Ida of Caledonia; one daughter, Ila (James) Hammell, rural Eitzen; two grandsons; two great-granddaughters; one sister, Florence Irons, Northwood, IA; and one sister-in-law, Wilma Moe, Houston.

Arlie was preceded in death by his parents; one infant daughter; four brothers, Alfred in infancy, George, Edward and Otto; and one sister, Pearl Kroack.

Services will be Wednesday, January 28, 11 a.m., at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Caledonia, with Rev. Rolf Storlie officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery. Friends may call at the church on Wednesday from 10 a.m. until the time of service.

Haugen-Roble-Jandt Funeral Home of Caledonia is in charge of arrangements.
