Ed Cody

Ed H. Cody, Onalaska, WI, died January 6, 2004, at Franciscan Skemp Healthcare. Ed was born July 15, 1919, in Seneca, WI, to Edward and Delia (MacNamara) Cody. He attended Seneca Schools while learning the art of farming on the family farm, near Hallís Branch. He married Maxine Marie Monahan on February 27, 1946, at St. Phillips Church, Rolling Ground.

Ed and Maxine farmed, first near Stoney Point, and later, between Rolling Ground and Mt. Zion in Crawford County. Despite many struggles, their home was always an open refuge for family and friends. In 1971 they sold their farm and moved to La Crescent, purchasing and operating The Sportsmanís Bar. In 1973 they returned to farming, purchasing a farm near Caledonia. During this time, Ed also sold Federal Crop Insurance in Houston County. In 1979 Ed and Maxine moved to Onalaska. In later years Ed worked several jobs, including Schaller Farms, Mathy Construction, Skemp Clinic and Wonder Wash. Ed was always recognized for his hard work, his resilience and his constant humor. He was a member of St. Patrickís Catholic Church, Onalaska and a member and tireless volunteer of the Moose Club.

Ed is survived by three sons, Joe and Jerry, Onalaska, Pat (Debbie), Caledonia; 11 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; a brother, Daniel, Roseville; two sisters, Theresa Garvey, Boscobel, WI, and Claudine Geise, Platteville, WI.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Maxine, his daughter, Delores, his parents, a brother, William and a sister, Mary Ellen Watson.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, January 10, at St. Joseph the Workman Cathedral, La Crosse, WI, with Rev. Michael Gorman officiating with entombment in the Catholic Cemetery. Friends and family may call from 5-8 p.m. at the Blaschke Funeral Home, 401 West Ave. So., La Crosse with a Vigil service to be held at 7:30 p.m. Friends and family may also call at the Cathedral on Saturday from 10 a.m. until the time of Mass. A meal will be served following the service at The Moose Club on Ward Avenue.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials offered to the Alzheimers Association and/or Chileda.
