Donald Heiller
Donald Junior Heiller, 78, of rural Caledonia, MN, lost his life with his boots on, caring for Godís creatures in a farm related accident on July 19, 2004. He was born September 3, 1925 in Reno, MN, to William and Edna (Roth) Heiller, and was a lifelong area resident. Donald graduated from Caledonia High School in 1943 and during his high school years played on the football team. On April 10, 1955, he married Lillian Pieper at St. Johnís Evangelical Lutheran Church in Caledonia. The couple farmed in rural Caledonia. Donald and Lillian were members of the Clayhill Dance Club of Decorah, IA, until it disbanded.
He enjoyed spending time with his family, being outdoors, picking berries and nuts and dancing and listening to old time music. He, together with Joe Serres and Charlie Vodraska, were instrumental in getting ACE telephone to Brownsville.
Donald is survived by his wife Lillian of rural Caledonia; one son Bob (Sue) Heiller, Lakeville; two daughters: Donise (Merle) Becker, Caledonia, and Barbara Heiller (Mark Metz), Honolulu, Hawaii; nine grandchildren; one brother Fred ëFritzí (Irene) Heiller, Tehachapi, CA; two sisters: Betty (Joe) Serres and Doris (Robert) Mitchell, all of Brownsville; and one sister-in-law, Fern Heiller, Brownsville.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Rona, Erwin and Fayne, two sisters, Gladys Powell and Marion Willingham and two brothers-in-law, Eddie Powell and Sidney (Willie) Willingham.
Services will be Saturday, July 24, at 1 p.m. at St. Johnís Evangelical Lutheran in Caledonia with Pastor Thomas J. Schultz officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery in Caledonia. Friends may call Friday from 4-7 p.m. at St. Johnís Evangelical Lutheran Church in Caledonia and one hour prior to services at the church on Saturday.
Roble Funeral Service of Spring Grove is in charge of arrangements.
