Francis Klees

Francis L. Klees, Sr., 86, of Brownsville, MN, died on Wednesday, July 21, 2004 at the La Crescent Healthcare Center. He was born in Brownsville on April 12, 1918 to Frank and Ann (Kletzke) Klees. He married Fannie Jackson in June of 1944 in Brownsville, Texas.

Francis was a veteran of WWII having served in the United States Army. Following his discharge he worked as a deck hand for the Mississippi Valley Barge Lines in Joliet, Il. for more than 25 years, retiring in 1974. He then worked as a commercial fisherman and trapper until the time of his illness.

Francis was a member of VFW Post #6801 in Brownsville and the Maritime Union. He enjoyed playing euchre, watching baseball and football, especially the Minnesota Twins and Vikings.İİİİ

In addition to his wife, Fannie, he is survived by three daughters: Beverly Klees and her special friend, Mel Doss, La Crosse, WI, Elizabeth (Ron) Danielson, Brownsville, and Barbara Kasson, La Crosse; one son, Francis (Gloria) Klees, Jr., La Crosse; seven grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter. He is further survived by his special friend, his dog, Sandy. Francis was preceded in death by his parents.

Services were Friday, July 23 at 1 p.m. at the Schumacher-Kish Funeral Home of La Crescent with Rev. Paul J. Breza officiating. Burial with military honors was provided by VFW Post #6801 in the Veteranís Memorial Community Cemetery in Brownsville. Friends called at the funeral home on Friday from 11 a.m. until the time of services.
