Accused vandal plea; not guilty

Posted: 6/1/04

One of the two La Crescent-area men who is charged with three counts of criminal damage to property pled not guilty in district court on May 26.

Tyler Wieser, 18, made the plea before Judge James Fabian at the Houston County Courthouse in Caledonia.

The court date for Kevin Humfeld, 18, facing the same three felony charges, was moved to June 11.

If convicted, the maximum penalty they could receive would be five years in jail and a $10,000 fine. They are both free on $2,500 bail.

Wieser and Humfeld are accused of dumping used motor oil on eight vehicles on the night of May 19. The vehicles belonged to six students and two teachers from La Crescent High School.

The La Crescent School Board voted on May 26 not to allow the two seniors, and two other people implicated in the incident, from taking part in the schoolís commencement exercises on June 6. The names of the other two men have not been released because they have not been charged. One is a minor.
