Burndette Carpenter

Burndette ìDoDoî Carpenter, 85, of Houston, MN, died Monday, May 31, 2004, at the Valley View Nursing Home in Houston.

She was born on January 15, 1919, in Yucatan Township of Houston County to Andrew and Ida (Erickson) Gustafson. Burndette lived all of her life in the Houston area. She worked for her grandfatherís dairy business as a child and also for many years into adulthood. She married Oscar Steffens in 1936, he died in 1940. She then married William Carpenter in 1944, William died in 1975.

Burndette worked with her husband William on their dairy farm in Looney Valley for many years. She also worked at Community Memorial Hospital in Winona for many years. She was a member of Cross of Christ Lutheran Church in Houston. Burndette loved to work and always keep herself busy. She also enjoyed traveling especially the flights to her destination.

She is survived by three sons: Michael (Susan) Carpenter, Caledonia, Jim (Joyce) Carpenter, Fairbanks, Alaska, and Timothy Carpenter, Houston; two daughters: Patricia (William) Erickson, Fredericksburg, Virginia, and Dorothy Steffens, Northfield; eight grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren; and one sister, Avis Williams of Houston.

She was preceded in death by her husbands, daughter, Dava Jean Isenberg, granddaughter, Gail Isenberg, brother Lyle Sweet, and sisters, Amanda Sanden, Inga Sweet, Myrtle Flatten, and Amy Miller.

Services will be at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, June 4, at Cross of Christ Lutheran Church in Houston with the Rev. Louise Stromberg officiating. Burial will be at the Stone Church Cemetery in Houston. Friends may call from 6-8 p.m. on Thursday at Hoff Funeral Homes ñ Houston Chapel and one hour prior to the service on Friday at the church.
