The trial date for Justin Meyer has been moved again, this time to Monday, September 13 at Allamakee County District Court in Waukon, Iowa.

The trial had originally been set for March 17, and then June 3. It was changed because both parties are still preparing for trial, according to Bob Brammer, a spokesperson for the Iowa State Attorney Generalís office.

ěItís not unusual in this kind of case,î he said on June 3 of the changes in trial dates that have occurred with Meyer

Meyer, who is from New Albin, Iowa, is charged in Iowa with kidnapping his former girlfriend and their child from their home in Caledonia on December 8.

That charge is tied to the death of Mark Sullivan of Caledonia, who Meyer allegedly shot and killed before kidnapping the woman and the child. Meyer is the father of the child.

Part of the trial preparation is taking pre-trial discovery dispositions, in which each side gets to question witnesses that the other side will present, Brammer said.

A motion hearing will also take place on July 19. This will resolve any issues on evidence that will be admitted, Brammer said. The trial will occur on September 13, with jury selection on September 14.

Meyer is currently in the Dubuque, Iowa, County jail, because it is a newer facility and closer to his attorney, Brammer said.

After the Iowa trial, Meyer will be extradited to Minnesota, where he faces one count of homicide and one count of attempted homicide.
