Posted: 3/17/04 Tinka Christine RudTinka Christine (Bergrud) Rud, 89, of Spring Grove, died Monday, March 15, 2004 at Tweeten Health Services in Spring Grove, MN. She was born February 25, 1915 in Spring Grove to Albert and Lennie (Tollefsrud) Bergrud. She was a lifelong area resident. On June 30, 1935 she married Gilman O. Rud and he preceded her in death on August 25, 1985. She graduated with a B.A. from Winona State University in 1972. Tinka taught in rural Iowa schools and Allamakee Community School, Dorchester, IA for over 30 years and retired in 1981. During the 1991-92 school year, she was awarded the American Education Week Citizens Recognition Award for service and dedication to education in the Spring Grove area. Tinka was a member of Waterloo Ridge Lutheran Church in rural Spring Grove where she had been the Sunday School Superintendent and held numerous other offices. She was a member of the Retired Teachers Assn, the Spring Grove Garden Club, and honored as 1998 Syttende Maiís Mest Hoyaktet Dame (Most Honored Lady). She is survived by four sons: Loren (Marcia), Darryl (Lorraine), Dennis (Jan) and Mark (Kari), all of Spring Grove; four daughters: Joycelyn (Carlyn) Rostad, Darlene (Ron) Dix, Judy (Gerald) Bratland, all of Spring Grove and Lorna (Milton) Myhre, Chanhassen; 19 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; four sisters: Hazel Lundberg, Orpha (Leland) Weymiller, both of Spring Grove, Mavis (Earl) Arneson, Highlandville, IA, and Wanda (Eldon) Smith, Mabel. In addition to her husband Gilman, she was preceded in death by her sister, Gynith Brevig and her brother, Archie Bergrud. Services will be Friday, March 19, 11:30 a.m. at Waterloo Ridge Lutheran Church in rural Spring Grove with burial in the church cemetery. Pastor Arndt Braaten will officiate.
