Houston welcomes new flower shop

A new business has taken root in Houston.

Amy Peterson has opened Houston Floral in the former Peterson Taxidermy business, which was operated by her husband, Travis. She had a quiet opening the week before Valentineís Day. She arranges flowers for weddings, funerals, and prom and other special events. Any has had training in floral arranging from the National Institute of Floristry. She offers a selection of green and blooming plants and some gift items. She said she will be expanding her line of gifts.

ìItís something I always wanted to do,î said Amy of her new business venture. She said she grew up gardening and admits her first love is still outdoor gardening. She has a large flower garden and enjoys water gardening as well. She plans to offer outdoor bedding plants and hanging baskets at her new business. She has no employees at the moment, but gets help from her daughter, Krista Himlie, 12, who also enjoys working with plants and flowers.

Houston Floral is open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday. The phone number is 896-3599.
