Easter Cantata is SundayPosted: 3/30/04 By David Heiller ìItís a wonderful sound.î Thatís how Carolyn Tornstrom describes the Easter Cantata that a community choir will perform in Caledonia on Palm Sunday, April 4, at 3 p.m. at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Caledonia. Tornstrom and fellow choir member Judy St. Mary took a few minutes from a rehearsal on March 25 to talk about the cantata. The Caledonia Performing Arts Council, of which both ladies are members, is sponsoring the event. Director Eliott Kranz picked out the program, which is called No Other Lamb, by Ted Fettke. It is excellent, Tornstrom said, with many familiar Lenten and Easter hymns. The choir members, who come from several local churches and are of different ages, are all good singers too, she said. ìI think the people participating enjoy it as much as people coming to the concert,î St. Mary said. The arts council sponsored a cantata two years ago, and they had such a positive response that they decided to do one again this year. ìPeople are ready for this type of music,î St. Mary said. Tornstrom said Kranz, who is the choir director at Caledonia Middle/High School, is doing an excellent job. Here are the community choir members. ï First soprano: Marilyn Austin, Kathryn Bailey, Peggy Eggert, Susie Frank, Sandie Lord, Alayna Longhorn, Candis Wiste. ï Second soprano: Kristi Frank, Dorothy Manhart, JoAnn Novak, Sharon Schulte, Carolyn Tornstrom, Pam Wynn. ï Alto: Ann Bauer, Kay Denstad, Emily Denstad, Janice Dokken, Charlotte Gerdes, Sharon Goetzinger, Aleisa Klinski, Kelly Kuecker, Meggan Macomber, Marilyn Nelson, Iona Novak, Judy St. Mary. ï Tenor: Gary Buxengard, Roland Deters, Judith Stone, Marilyn Sylling. ï Bass: Duane Deters, Merrill Deters, S. Lee Epps, Dale Meiners, Greg Schieber, Karl Sylling, Sanford Wiste, Bob Zimmerman. Sibyl Floyd is the accompanist. She said she is enjoying it, and working with Kranz, who she said has a way of making it fun for everyone. Kranz said he is enjoying directing the adults. He has had a busy winter and spring at the high school, with concerts, contests, and a school musical. Lee Epps is the narrator. John Leahy, the arts council president, is in charge of publicity and programs. A freewill offering will be taken. The donations will be much appreciated, Tornstrom said, because there are a lot of expenses involved with the production. ©The Argus E-Mail: editor.argus@ecm-inc.com |
