Co. Road 3 to be busy this summerPosted: 5/11/04 If you travel County Road 3 between Caledonia and Brownsville, be prepared to encounter some heavy equipment this summer. Houston County Engineer Allen Henke told commissioners at their May 4 meeting that several improvements will be made. The 3.5 mile stretch of road that was reconstructed last year will be paved. It has a couple soft spots, Henke said, but they can be fixed. Also, Wiebke Hill to County Road 32 will be remilled; the first mile of County Road 24 off County Road 3 will be milled and repaved; the river hill leading to Brownsville will be widened and repaved; and County Road 3 in the City of Brownsville will be repaved. Two bridges to be replaced The board also passed a ìresolution for advance constructionî required by the federal government that gives the county permission to go ahead with two bridge replacement projects and then get reimbursed for them at a later date. The projects, which will cost $412,000, are for a bridge on County Road 10 in section five of Caledonia township by Schechís Mill, and one on County Road 5 in section 28 of Jefferson Township by the John Pittsí farm. The resolution was needed because a new federal transportation bill has not been passed yet to replace the one that expired last October. This has caused a shortfall in funding projects that have already been approved for construction. ©The Argus E-Mail: editor.argus@ecm-inc.com |
