Drop-off site revenues, expenses staying evenPosted: 5/25/04 Rick Frank, Houston County Environmental Services Director, gave a report to the county board on expenditures and revenues of the five supervised drop-off sites in Houston County for the first three months of this year and the previous two years. Revenues rose by $7,285 since last year, but expenditures went up $7,597. Frank said he was trying to get a handle on the amount of appliances coming in. ìWe are taking measures to keep the out-of-county appliances coming in,î he said. ìItís tough to do.î People have to sign for appliances to make sure they are county residents. The amount of material coming through has been consistent, Frank said, and payment for metals is enough to cover most of the expense for switch fees. ìI still think itís the best bargain going,î second district commissioner Kevin Kelleher said. Drop sites are located in Caledonia, Hokah, Houston, La Crescent, and Spring Grove. Hours are 8 a.m. - 3 p.m. on Saturday, and 2-7 p.m. on Monday. They accept refuse, building materials, compost, tires, and appliances. ©The Argus E-Mail: editor.argus@ecm-inc.com |
