Posted: 5/25/04

Two 18-year-old La Crescent-area men have been charged with three counts each of felony criminal damage to property.

Kevin Arther Humfeld, Route 2, La Crescent, and Tyler Aloys Wieser, Route 1, Dakota, appeared in Houston County District Court on May 21 before Judge James Fabian.

The charges came after several people in the La Crescent area complained that their vehicles had been doused with used motor oil during the night of May 18.

Eight vehicles and one lawn mower had oil poured on them. Terryís Schohís 1998 Ford Ranger was one of them ñ it was covered with about five gallons of used motor oil. He got a clean-up estimate of $1,672.

An investigation by the La Crescent Police Department and Houston County Sheriffís Office led to the arrests of Humfeld and Wieser.

Humfeld is being represented by public defender Karin Sonneman of Winona. Wieser is being represented by public defender James Schultz of Houston. They are both free on $2,500 bail.

Their next court appearance is May 26 at 9:30 a.m.
