Accident claims life of Caledonia manPosted: 5/4/04 By David Heiller A Caledonia man died and a Spring Grove man was injured in a three vehicle accident just north of Millerís Corner on the afternoon of April 30. Robert Devine, 50, was heading north on Highway 16, two miles south of La Crescent, at about 4 p.m. when he crossed the centerline in his car. He sideswiped a pickup driven by Lynette Borck, 38, of Hokah. Devine then collided head-on with a car driven by Bruce Schuttemeier, 37, of Spring Grove, who was driving south. Devine was flown by helicopter to Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center, where he died. Schuttemeier was taken by ambulance to Gundersen Lutheran. He suffered a fractured skull, a crushed right elbow, two cracked vertebrae, puncture wounds in his right knee, and a cut in his left elbow that required 19 stitches.
