Brownsville man hurt in car accident November 7

Gregory Marcus Engen, 19, of Brownsville, was injured on November 7 in a one-car accident.

He was driving north on Hillside Road at about 6:30 p.m. that Sunday night when his vehicle skidded about 90 feet, left the road, and struck a tree.

Brownsville first responders went to the scene, and a MedLink helicopter took him to Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center.

His condition was not made available to The Argus.

The cause of the accident is still under investigation pending test results, Houston County Chief Deputy Ken Frank said on November 12.


Many deer accidents

The incident reports at the sheriffís office on November 12 also showed many car-deer accidents. Itís an annual occurrence this time of year, Frank said.

Three such incidents were reported on November 9 alone. Tina Meyer of Postville, Iowa, hit a deer between Caledonia and Eitzen, and two New Albin women, Patricia Coots and Bonnie Zeimet, each hit a deer on Highway 26 north of New Albin.

Liquor store break in

In City of Caledonia police news, it was reported on Monday, November 8 that someone had broken into the city-owned liquor store at 126 South Kingston.

Police chief Duane St. Mary suspects the break-in occurred the previous night.

The person smashed the glass in the front door enough to get his arm in and unlock the door. The person stole two bottles of Bacardi Limon and two bottles of Jack Daniels whiskey.


Cough syrup concerns

Two Caledonia incidents occurred regarding people finding empty bottles of cough syrup.

Deputy Gary Bubbers wrote in one report that it ìappears kids are buying them again to get a buzz.î

Police officers have notified local stores that sell the product to keep it behind the counter so that it can be monitored.
