Rev. Storlie retires after 24 years

The congregations of Immanuel and Wilmington Lutheran Churches, as well as many family members and friends, gathered to say farewell to the Rev. Rolf Storlie and his wife, Jan, on October 24. Pastor Storlie retired October 31 after 40 years in the ministry, 24 of them in Caledonia.

About 500 people attended the retirement open house, the highlight of which was a program featuring musical selections and comments from former and present parishioners. Sons Dan of Holmen, and Erik, who lives in Japan, shared stories of growing up ěpreachersí kids.î The Storlies also have a daughter, Kristi Lieberman of Naples, Florida.

A 1957 graduate of Houston High School, Pastor Storlie graduated from Luther College in 1961 and Luther Seminary in St. Paul in 1965. He served congregations in Lisbon, Cogswell, Brampton, and Havana, all in North Dakota; and in Ada and Hartland in Minnesota before being called to the Immanuel and Wilmington congregations in 1980.

During his years in the ministry, Pastor Storlie performed 344 baptisms, confirmed 530 young people, presided at 492 funerals and performed 218 weddings.

Immanuel and Wilmington presented the Storlies with a ěLove offeringî as a gesture of appreciation for his years of service.
