Standish to seek write-in votes

Robert Standish of Caledonia has announced that he is a willing write-in candidate for one of the two open positions on the city council.
In addition to the two council positions, the position of mayor is also up for reelection and there are no candidates on the ballot.
Standish moved to Caledonia in 1960 as a central office technician and installer for Northwestern Bell. He is retired from the phone company and ran a tree-moving service for several years before selling the business to his son. He currently works at Northern Engraving.
ìThe need is there and I have the desire to help in any way I can,î said Standish when asked why he is seeking write-in votes. ìCaledonia has given me so much in the past 40 years that I wanted to give something back. I have experience, and I have common sense.î
The experience he speaks of includes two and a half terms on the school board and eight years on the Caledonia Hospital Board. He is on the board of directors for Camp Winnebago.
Standish is a co-founder of the Caledonia Auxiliary Police, and was its first chief. He has been a member of the American Legion for more than 50 years and spent eight years in the Marine Corps.
ìI am positive I can do the job,î said Standish. ìI get a tremendous amount of satisfaction being around people and working with people.î
No other individuals have expressed to The Argus an interest in being a write-in candidate for the council or mayor. Mark Schiltz and John Klug did not file for reelection to the council, nor did Mayor Robert Burns. The positions can be filled by write-in votes.
However, if the individuals with the most write-in votes are not willing to accept the positions, those currently serving will continue to serve until they find willing replacements.
