Earl Matthew Traufler
Earl Matthew Traufler died on Wednesday, October 13, 2004 at Southview Care Center.
Earl was born in Caledonia on October 31, 1920 to Peter and Katherine (Mies) Traufler.
Earl joined the Army in 1942 and fought in the Battle of Normandy; he was honorably discharged in 1945. He lived in Caledonia with his first wife Beverly (Nelson) Welscher until 1970. They were later divorced.
During that time he was a member of St. Peterís Catholic Church, the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Volunteer Fire Departrment.
He is survived by his wife, Pearl (Nelson); two children, Jean (Jon) Amlaw of La Crescent, MN and Thomas (Karen) Traufler of La Crosse, WI; five stepchildren, Gary (Judy), Gene (Maureen) and Dennis (Theresa) Nelson, Cliff (Kathy) Michaelis and Diane (Michael) Calderon. He was happy to have numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister Lillian and nephew Donald.
Services were held on Saturday, October 16 in Hastings. Burial, with full military honors, was held at Graceland Cemetery in Albert Lea.
