Davids responds to campaign financing ruling
Representative Greg Davids of Preston said on October 18 that he accepted the ruling of the Campaign Finance and Public Disclosure Board and that he will make the necessary changes to his campaign spending reports.
The Board ruled that Representative Davids inadvertently misclassified some non-campaign disbursements and that they should be re-classified as campaign expenditures. These were newspaper ads called ìI have an idea for you.î
ìSo weíre amending our return and then weíre done,î Davids told The Argus on October 18.
The ruling was not available to the public until October 26, after this newspaper was printed.
The complaint was filed with the Board on September 17 by Harlin Taylor, treasurer of the Hanson for House Committee. Davids is being opposed for reelection by Peggy Hanson of Lanesboro.
The eight-page document alleged violation of the ethics of government act. It claimed that there wereÝìserious and ongoing campaign finance improprieties committed by the People for (Gregory) Davids Committee.î
Davids said in an October 18 press release that his campaigns have always complied with the strict spending limits of the state, and that his campaign will abide by the spending limits set by the Campaign Finance Board.
ìWe accept the ruling of the board and will fully comply with their findings,î David said in the press release. ìI have always, and will continue, to serve my constituents in any way that I can. Constituent service is one of the most important duties that an elected official has, I feel that I serve my constituents better than most, and I will continue to serve my constituents in every way that I can.î
