Public flu shot clinic in Caledonia next Tuesday
Only high risk groups will be accepted
Houston County Public Health, in collaboration with Homeland Health, will hold a public influenza vaccination clinic at the Four Seasons Community Center, 900 North Kingston, Caledonia, next week.
The clinic will be on Tuesday, October 26 from 9:00 a.m. to 1 p.m., or until all available vaccine has been distributed. The clinic is only for those people who face a high risk of complications from influenza. All high risk groups and ages will be accepted.
The cost for the shots is $20. Cash or checks will be accepted, as well as most insurances. Please bring your insurance card so that the vendor can bill your insurance company.
The county public health department is asking healthy people and those in our communities who are not in high risk groups to forgo their annual flu shot this year. The county wants to conserve the available vaccine so that it has enough to protect the most vulnerable family members and community members who are at high risk of complications from influenza.
For those who cannot get vaccinated this year, it is important to remember that there are other steps they can take to protect themselves and others from the flu:
ï Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue when you cough or sneeze - and dispose of the tissue afterward.
ï If you donít have a tissue, cough or sneeze into your sleeve.
ï Clean your hands after you cough or sneeze - with soap and warm water, or an alcohol based hand cleaner.
ï If you get the flu, avoid exposing others. Stay home from work or school.
ï No flu activity has been reported yet in the county or across the state. Influenza cases donít usually appear until after November 1.
