Board approves four building permits

Houston County commissioners approved four conditional use permits at their October 5 meeting.

Permits were granted to:

ï Mark Gerard, Wilmington Township, to build a house on less than 40 acres in an ag district.

ï Mike Hahn, Wilmington Township, to build a house on less than 40 acres in an ag district.

ï Ron Holte, Black Hammer Township, to build a cabin in ag district.

ï Dean and Kimberly Mierau, Money Creek Township, to build a house on less than 40 acres in an ag district.

Zoning administrator Bob Scanlan told the board that the new Mierau home will be on the same 40-acre parcel as the Allen Larson home, something that is not allowed under the present county zoning ordinances.

The old ordinance had allowed one farm dwelling per 40 acre parcel and one non-farm dwelling per 40 acre parcel. It now states one dwelling per 40 acre parcel. But the Mieraus bought the 22-acre parcel a month before the new ordinance went into effect in 2002, so they can legally build a house on it, Scanlan said.

The Houston County Planning Commission had approved all of the permits at hearings held on September 23. County commissioners have final say on planning commission approvals.
