Fidelis Eva Stemp
Fidelis Eva Stemp, 93, of Chatfield died Wednesday, October 27, 2004 at Chosen Valley Care Center in Chatfield, where she had lived 10 years.
Fidelis Eva Gaspard was born December 16, 1910, in Caledonia and graduated from Loretto Catholic High School in Caledonia in 1928. After graduating from St. Theresa College in Winona in 1932 with a double major in English and Latin, she taught in Verndale, MN for two years and in Stewartville for four years.
On November 30, 1939, she married Don Stemp at St. Johnís Catholic Church in Caledonia. They operated Stemps Drug Store in Chatfield for 38 years. She was a member of St. Maryís Altar Society, had been a member of the Chosen Valley Mothers club for 50 years, and was active in Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts. She enjoyed antiques.
Fidelis was preceded in death by her husband on October 25, 1993.
Survivors include three sons, David (Louise) of Cha\tfield, Ralph (Anne) of Seattle and Mark (Darlene) of Bethel, Alaska; a daughter, Gretchen (Milo) Tuma of Muskego, WI; 13 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and a sister, Therese Gaspard of Rochester.
Friends may call from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at Riley Funeral Home in Chatfield, where there will be a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. and an hour before the service Saturday at the church.
A funeral Mass for Fidelis Eva Stemp will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, October 30 at St. Maryís Catholic church in Chatfield, with the Rev. Russell Scepaniak officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery in Chatfield.
