Caledonia Charities begins fund drive
This yearís annual Caledonia Charities fund drive has a new twist: requests for donations will now be sent to rural residents as well.
ìThey certainly benefit, and will see the need to donate too,î said Lyn VanDenBoom, who with her husband Ken heads up the organization.
Caledonia Charities is a non- profit organization that conducts fund drive once a year. Money is distributed to a number of charities and non-profit groups, with special consideration given to local groups. Donors can indicate what groups they would like their donation to go to, but most donít designate.
In March, members of Caledonia Charities get together and decide how to distribute the funds. Board members are Mary Betz, Liza Jandt, Steve Buttell, Jack Hauser, Howard Medin, Glenda Miller, Jean Betz (secretary) and Jean Becker (treasurer).
With cutbacks in government spending, donations from Caledonia Charities can help keep some important programs going. For instance, Caledonia Charities donated to Semcac Senior Dining to keep that program going, and also to Semcacís emergency assistance fund for needy families.
In 2003, Caledonia Charities raised $9,600 and hopes to surpass that figure this year.
Local residents can expect to receive the Caledonia Charities envelope in their mail this week. Residents within the 55921 zip code area who do not receive an envelope and would like to donate can contact a board member.
