Leland Vetsch

Leland L. Vetsch, 78, of Houston, died Tuesday, August 31, 2004, at the Valley View Nursing Home in Houston.

He was born on September 4, 1925, in Caledonia, Minn. to Roy and Lillian (Rudisuhle) Vetsch. He was raised in Caledonia and attended Crystal Valley School. On August 14, 1959, he married Kathryn Torgerson. Leland worked on the family farm for many years and later retired from farming. He moved to Houston at which time he started working for the Watkins Company in Winona, Minn., where he worked for 20 years. Lelandís interests included golf, fishing, helping people by bringing them to their various appointments and especially visiting with his brothers.

He is survived by his wife Kathryn; two sons: Loren (Cathy) Vetsch of Houston and Dale (Barbara) Hegland of Lake Wales, Fla; three daughters: Doris (Richard) Todd of Houston; Diane (Gary) Yezek of Manly, Iowa and Donna (Glen) Schallock of West Salem, Wis.; nine grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren; two brothers: Edward (Gladys) Vetsch of Winona, Minn. and Allen (Lorraine) Vetsch of Rochester, Minn. He was preceded in death by his parents.

The funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 4, 2004 at the Cross of Christ Lutheran Church in Houston with the Rev. Louise Stromberg officiating. Burial will be in the Stone Church Cemetery in Houston with military honors by the Arnet ñ Sheldon American Legion Post in Houston. Friends may call from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Friday at Hoff Funeral Homes ñ Houston Chapel and one hour prior to the service on Saturday at the Church.

The family prefers memorials to be directed to the Cross of Christ Lutheran Church or to the Valley View Nursing Home.
