Caledonia woman wins $100,000

Michele Pierceís persistence with the Minnesota lottery paid off on April 6.

The Caledonia woman plays the lottery every Wednesday and Saturday, and last week she got lucky.

It was good fortune in more ways than one. Pierce, 40, had eaten lunch at the China Buffet in Caledonia that day. She got the inevitable fortune cookie. The little slip of paper with the fortune had numbers on the back.

She bought her Powerball ticket at Kwik Trip using the numbers on the fortune, and won $100,000.

It was incredible, Pierce said on Monday from South Dakota, where she was working for her job as a sales representative of library automation systems. She said she was in shock.

The Powerball company took out about $32,000 in taxes. Sheíll use the rest to pay bills and perhaps buy a new truck. First she wants to talk to a tax preparer.

Her lottery playing will continue, as will her faith in fortune cookies.
