Charges pending in mailbox vandalism
Subway robber sentenced
Four Caledonia males are likely to be charged soon with vandalizing 10 mailboxes on August 16.
Houston County Sheriffís Department Chief Deputy Ken Frank said on August 18 that the investigation was being wrapped up on the case. The reports will then be forwarded to the county attorneyís offices for criminal damage to property charges.
Two of the males are age 19, one is 18, and one is 16. They re all from the Caledonia area, Frank said.
They allegedly smashed and kicked seven mailboxes on Cork Hollow and three on Hillside Road. Someone on Cork Hollow Road got the license plate of the vehicle, at about 1:30 a.m. that Tuesday morning, which led to the identification of the suspects, Frank said.

Three men, juvenile sentenced
Three Houston County men and a juvenile have been sentenced for crimes that occurred in Houston County.
ï Gary Allen Skaggs Jr., 17, was sentenced to 18 months in prison for a robbery at the Subway restaurant in Caledonia on February 15. He pled guilty in June to second degree assault. Skaggs will also be under supervised release for nine months after he leaves prison.
ï Dustin James Saukko, Spring Grove, was sentenced to 90 days in jail for two counts of third degree burglary that occurred in Caledonia on May 2 when he broke into the Caledonia Mall and Caledonia Auto Center. He must also pay restitution and apologize to the business owners.
ï A 15-year-old juvenile male also pled guilty to the mall and auto center break-ins. He was sentenced to a consequence program at Sheriffís Youth Ranch in Austin for 60-90 days. He will then be on supervised probation for an indefinite length of time.
ï Edward Jones, 31, La Crosse, was sentenced to 60 days in jail for selling $100 worth of cocaine to an informant in La Crescent on February 5. He will also have to do 40 hours of community service and be on probation for 15 years.
