Winona Controls happy with new home

The workers at Winona Controls are happily settling into their new location at 108 Bissen Street in Caledonia. The official move took place on August 8.

Owners Debby and Randy Klinski said on August 19 that it is a great improvement for their company, which does mechanical service and contracting primarily for commercial and industrial buildings.

Winona Controls, which employs 14 people, had been located in a 20-25-foot addition on the Klinskiís rural Caledonia home. But the days of four people in a room there, and another person in the basement, have been replaced by a 6,800-square foot building that contains a reception area, three offices, a training room, a break room, a heated storage space, and a cold storage space.

It was built by Nelson Construction of Caledonia, the last one they built before closing their business this summer.

Randy Klinski said he and his workers were still getting organized. But they are very happy with the move, he said. ìWe were basically out of space where we were, both office and shop,î he said.

There are advantages to being in the City of Caledonia also. Winona Controls can use high speed internet now instead of the less reliable high speed dish satellite. They use this extensively in their business for monitoring and controlling the mechanical systems that they install.

ìWe can dial in through the internet and look at any of our job sites,î Randy said.

Programmer Adam Augedahl can send graphics, do troubleshooting, and make program changes from his office in Caledonia, Randy added.

Receiving deliveries is also much more efficient, both Debby and Randy said. They have a loading dock now, and there is no longer the worry of trucks dealing with road restrictions.

Winona Controls received a tax abatement of 75 percent for the first six years and 50 percent for the last four years, not to exceed $10,000.
