Chamber of Commerce opens office on Main

In an effort to increase its visibility in the comunity, the Caledonia Chamber of Commerce has opened an office in downtown Caledonia.

The space at 214 East Main Street was most recently home to Shapes Fitness Center, and prior to that was the law office of David Schultz.

There are plans to have the office open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday, according to Chamber secretary P.J. Johnson. Terica Buckhanan will be staffing the office most of the time, but volunteers are still needed to fill in, especially on Fridays and Saturdays. Volunteers will answer phones, greet visitors and process requests for information.

Many of the activities of the Chamber will now be coordinated through the office, including the city-wide garage sale and other Chamber promotions. The Chamber will also maintain a database of its members, and keep a master list of events so that community groups can plan activities that wonít conflict with other scheduled activities.

The office will keep a supply of informational literature on hand to fulfill requests from people interested in relocating to the area or visiting the area. Having an office right across from city hall will be an advantage because they can refer people to the city hall when necessary, said Johnson.

Eventually, the Chamber of Commerce will hold its weekly meetings at the office. Currently, the Chamber meets Wednesday mornings at 8 a.m at the AmericInn. The president of the Chamber is Pete Congdon.

The phone number for the Chamber office is 725-5477.
