Kelleher reappointed to rural policy board
The Center for Rural Policy and Development announced the appointments of five board members this month: three new appointments and two reappointments. The Centerís board of directors, which governs the direction and mission of the Centerís rural policy work, strives to represent all of rural Minnesota.
Reappointed was Kevin Kelleher of rural Houston. He is a Houston County Commissioner and holds a seat on the board representing rural county government. Kelleher operates a sheep farm and is active in both the Minnesota Association of Counties and the National Association of Counties, where he holds a board seat. ěIím extremely pleased to be able to continue to be a part of the Center and its work on behalf of rural Minnesota,î he said.
Two new appointments made by Governor Tim Pawlentys office are James Hoolihan of Grand Rapids and Sherry Ristau of Hutchinson. Hoolihan is president of the Blandin Foundation and fills one of the board seats reserved for a representative of a major Minnesota foundation.
The governor also reappointed Garfield Eckberg of Nicollet, representing a statewide farm organization. He is a retired farmer and has been an active member of Farm Bureau at the local, state and national level since 1963.
Also new to the board recently is Rep. Tony Cornish of Good Thunder. Cornish was appointed to the board by the Speaker of the House Steve Sviggum and replaces outgoing board member Rep. Bob Gunther of Fairmont. The Speaker of the House and the President of the Senate appoint one member each to the Centerís board.
Each board member serves a six-year term. Of the Centerís 20-member board, 13 are appointed by the governor, two are legislative appointments, and the rest are at-large seats chosen by the board members themselves.
The Center for Rural Policy and Development is a non-partisan, independent non-profit policy research organization dedicated to benefiting Minnesota by providing its policy makers with an unbiased evaluation of issues from a rural perspective.
