BOYS BASKETBALL: The Caledonia boys basketball team (2-1) is starting to dispute that preseason cliche. After losing its opener to Spring Grove, it had two big wins last week against very good teams.
First, the boys edged Kingsland on the road 60-58 on December 13, then they beat Chatfield at home 56-50 three nights later.
GIRLS BASKETBALL: The Caledonia girls basketball team lost two close games at home last week.
Winona Cotter beat the Warriors in overtime 81-73 on December 13, then Waukon beat them 59-51 two nights later.
GYMNASTICS: The Caledonia/Spring Grove gymnastics team came within half a point of winning its first home meet of the season. Stewartville earned 121.95 points in the December 13 meet, and C/SG had 121.48.
ìWe had a great meet! The girls were really excited about breaking 120 this early in the season,î said Coach Kim Klopfer. ìI believe that the scores were slightly inflated, but the performances improved greatly from the last meet.
WRESTLING: The Caledonia High School varsity wrestlers did not compete last week. They wrestled at La Crescent on December 20, then have their first home meet of the season on December 22 against Dover-Eyota. They are then off until The Clash in Rochester on December 30-31.
