A group of people has emerged to take over Caledoniaís Founders Day, and they are looking for help.
The previous Founders Day Committee members announced in November that they would be stepping down, leaving the possibility that the annual June city celebration could be over.
But that apparently isnít going to happen.
Noel Brenza, Lisa Ely, and Sue Felten have decided to help put together the next Founders Day. They will be holding an organizational meeting on Wednesday, January 4 at 7 p.m. in the city auditorium basement. Anyone interested in helping is encouraged to attend.
ëWeíre trying to get peopleís attention,î said Ely, the new secretary, on December 16. The new committee wants to know who the people are who would like to help.
The new group has some fresh and different ideas, Ely said, and they want to hear everybody elseís ideas.
People who have helped in the past are welcome, she added. ëWe donít want to lose those people,í she said.
Anyone with questions can call Ely at 725-3407.
Founders Days began in 1979 to celebrate the 125th anniversary of the cityís founding. Its activities included many things, such as a chili/smelt supper, spring comedy, fashion show, summer celebration, bingo at the fair, Christmas lighting contest, Christmas parade, ECFE Family Fun Fair, and Queens Court area parades.
Outgoing committee members are Marian Gavin, president; Margie Ferring, vice-president; Janell Torgerson, secretary; and Jane Schiltz, treasurer.
