Youth sentenced
in gun theft case
A 14-year-old male was sentenced on February 9 for stealing guns in rural Caledonia on September 30.
Judge James Fabian sentenced the youth to supervised probation in Houston County. He had pled guilty to one count of burglary in the second degree burglary a felony, and to misdemeanor theft.
In Goodhue County he pled guilty to illegal possession a pistol, a felony. In another Houston County case that occurred on July 29, 2004, he pled guilty to motor vehicle use without consent and underage consumption of alcohol.
His February 9 sentence covered all of those crimes.
Two other juveniles were also charged in the gun theft case. A 15-year-old Caledonia male has pled guilty and been been placed in a juvenile detention facility.
A plea agreement has been offered to a 16-year-old female in the case, but it has yet to be resolved, assistant Houston County Attorney Suzanne Harnack said on February 11.
The three youths were arrested in Goodhue County on October 1 after driving off from a gas station in La Crescent without paying.
It was later determined that the car they were driving had been stolen in Caledonia. In the car were four firearms stolen from a rural Caledonia home on September 30.
The names cannot be made public because they were under the age of 16 at the time of the incident.
