Edward Vetch
Edward R. Vetsch, 82, of Winona, and formerly of Caledonia, died Wednesday, February 16, 2005, at Lake Winona Manor.
Ed was born in Caledonia on March 6, 1922, to Roy and Lillian (Rudisuhle) Vetsch. He attended Crystal Valley School in Houston. He enlisted in the Army in 1942 and served three years in the 101st Airborne during World War II as a paratrooper. He was awarded the Bronze Star and Purple Heart with Oak Leaf Cluster.
Ed married Gladys Schulze on May 5, 1946, and they farmed for 27 years in Caledonia. They moved to Winona in 1975 to work as a State Grain Sampler at Garnax and Harvest States Elevators.
He was a member of Goodview Trinity Lutheran Church, a lifetime member of Caledonia VFW and Winona DAV Chapter 35.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Gladys; four sons: Roger, Onalaska, WI, Dale (Rozann), Caledonia, Gordon (Cheryl), Dubuque, IA, and Scott (Carla), Rollingstone; two daughters: Joyce (Jim) Carpenter, Fairbanks, AK and Lois (Ed) Sauer, Eitzen; 10 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; one brother, Allen (Lorraine), Rochester, and a sister-in-law, Kathryn Vetsch, Houston.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Leland , of Houston.
Funeral services will be Monday, February, 21, 2005 at 11:00 AM at Goodview Trinity Ev. Lutheran Church, Goodview, with Rev. Tony Hansen, officiating. Interment will be Monday at 3 p.m. at Evergreen Cemetery, Caledonia , with military rites provided by the VFW Houston County Post 3833, Caledonia.
Visitation will be Sunday, February 20, 2005, from 3 to 7 p.m. at the Fawcett-Junker Funeral Home, Winona, and at the church on Monday beginning at 10 a.m.
Fawcett-Junker Funeral Home and Cremation Services of Winona was in charge of the arrangements.
