George faces more charges

Rickey George was charged with four gross misdemeanors on January 24 after making phone calls to the Houston County sheriffís office.

The charges are for harassment stalking, violating a harassment restraining order, obscene or harassing phone calls, and disorderly conduct. All of these incidents allegedly occurred on January 23 from his apartment in Caledonia. He was released on conditions that he comply with bonds posted and conditions in prior files.

Judge James Fabian ordered a Rule 20 evaluation for George, who is out on his own recognizance. The evaluation will be used to see if George is competent to assist in his own defense, and if at the time of the offense he knew right from wrong.

The judge also told George that he must limit his calls the court administratorís office to two times a week, and only to find out the time and date of court hearings. George may not call the sheriffís office except to request an officer, the judge also ruled.

George, who is from Violet Hills, Arkansas, faces several other charges. He was charged on August 12, 2004 with one count of making terroristic threats, a felony; and two counts of disorderly conduct, both misdemeanors. A plea hearing is scheduled for these charges for February 2 at 9 a.m. in Third District Court.

George has also been charged with driving without a valid Minnesota license, fifth degree assault, and disorderly conduct. He pled not guilty to those charges on August 23, and has requested a jury trial. A pre-trial hearing is set for February 23, with a trial set for May 10 and 11.

He also appeared before county commissioners on January 11 to seek help in getting his two children returned to him. The children are in foster care, and Georgeís parental rights have been terminated. He is appealing that decision.
