Wiebke Fur destroyed by fire
A fire the evening of February 2 destroyed the Wiebke Fur Company in Eitzen. The fire was discovered by Tom and Judy Wiebke, who own the business with their son Jason, at about 10:30 p.m. Fire departments from Eitzen, Caledonia, Spring Grove,Houston and New Albin, Iowa, responded and were on the scene throughout the night. Two area businesses, Caledonia Haulers and Cliff Viessman trucking, hauled water to the site to assist the fire departments.
Wiebke Fur has a long history in Eitzen and is a dealer in fur, hides, ginseng, and morel mushrooms as well as guns, ammunition, and other equipment for the sportsman.
The cause of the fire is unknown.
