Esther Thomford
Esther Bertha Thomford, 87, formerly of Brownsville, and rural Houston, died Wednesday, February 2, 2005, at the Field Crest Care Center, Hayfield.
She was born April 8, 1917, in Crooked Creek Township, Houston County, Minnesota, to John and Louise (Neumann) Cordes. On October 22, 1946, Esther married John Henry Thomford in Caledonia. Together they farmed near Brownsville until Johnís death on February 28, 1958. Esther continued farming there untilİshe retired in 1971 and moved to rural Houston. On October 21, 2002, sheİbecame a resident of the care center in Hayfield. Esther enjoyed music and dancing, animals, bird feeding, and spending time with her family.
Survivors include one daughter, Mavis Scanlan (Richard Lager) of Hayfield; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; one sister, Olga Fairbanks and one sister-in-law, Eleanor Cordes, both of Caledonia; and nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, Esther was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers, John, Edward, Herbert, and Henry Cordes, one sister, Laura Thomford, and a son-in-law, Gale Scanlan.
Services will be Monday, February 7, 2005, at 2:00 p.m. from Zion Evangelical Church, Brownsville. Rev. Brian Cuda will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Friends may call at the church on Monday from 1:00 p.m. until the time of service. Haugen-Roble-Jandt Funeral Home, Caledonia, is in charge of arrangements.
