Mildred M. Garness

Mildred M. Garness, 92, formerly of Caledonia, died Monday, February 7, 2005, at Winona Community Memorial Hospital.

Mildredİwas born October 4, 1912, in Rushford, Minnesota to Ralph and Mae (Johnson) Otis.İSheİgraduated fromİRushford High School. On June 15, 1931, she married Helmer Garness and they farmed for many yearsİin Fillmore and Houston Counties. Mildred also worked as a seamstress at the Winona Knitting Mill and Stotts Glove Company and sheİwas employed as an assembly worker in Spring Grove, Minn.

On January 18, 1987, Helmer preceded her in death. Mildred continued to live in Caledonia until September of 2003 when she became a resident at the Good Shepherd Lutheran Home in Rushford. Mildred was a member of the Caledonia United Methodist Church.İShe enjoyed music, playing the guitar, and sewing, embroidering, and quilting andİmade several items for her family, friends, and church.

Survivors include one son, Milford ìBusterî (Sherry) Garness of Rochester, Minn.; two daughters, Barbara (Don) Repinski of Minnesota City, Minn., and Janet (Joe) Palen of Caledonia; 10 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; one brother, Howard (Margie) Otis of Rushford, Minn.; two sisters, Hazel (Elmer) Brommerick of Winona, and Viola (William) Morrow of Danbury, Wis.; and nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband, Mildred is preceded in death by
one son, Gene; one grandson, Michael; one brother, Raymond; and one sister, Marion.

Services will be Friday, February 11, at 2 p.m.. from the Caledonia United Methodist Church, 308 N. Kingston St. Pastor Tony Fink will officiate. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery. Friends may call at the church on Thursday from 4-6 p.m. and on Friday from
1 p.m. until the time of service.

Haugen-Roble-Jandt Funeral Home, Caledonia, is in charge of arrangements.
