Another juvenile pleads in gun theft
A second person has pled guilty to stealing a gun in Caledonia on September 30.
A 14-year-old male made the plea on December 21 to one count of burglary in the third degree, a felony; and one count of misdemeanor theft. He will be sentenced by Judge James Fabian on February 9.
Two other juveniles were charged with second and third degree burglary and theft of firearms in the case. A 15-year-old Caledonia male has pled guilty and been been placed in a juvenile detention facility.
A plea offer has been sent to a 16-year-old female in the case, but no date for a settlement has been set, assistant Houston County Attorney Suzanne Harnack said on January 7.
The three youths were arrested in Goodhue County on October 1 after driving off from a gas station in La Crescent without paying.
It was later determined that the car they were driving had been stolen in Caledonia. In the car were four firearms stolen from a Caledonia home on September 30.
The youths were each charged in Houston County with burglary in the second degree, a felony; burglary in the third degree, a felony; and four separate theft of a firearm charges, each of which is a felony.
The names cannot be made public because they were under the age of 16 at the time of the incident.
Flag vandalism plea made
In other court news, a 15-year-old Caledonia male who allegedly stole and defaced an American flag pled not guilty to the crime on December 22. His trial is set for April 6.
The youth was charged in juvenile court with prohibited acts against a flag; theft of two flags, and criminal damage to property for the first flag that was stolen. His name cannot be made public because he is a juvenile.
He is accused of stealing an American flag from the flag pole by the community center in Brownsville on July 12, returning it a week later in a defaced condition, then stealing the new flag.
