Jilek pleads guilty in theft of electricity

John Bradley ìBradî Jilek, 53, Caledonia, pled guilty in Third District Court on June 27 to one count of theft by swindle.

Jilek was charged on April 19 with two counts of theft by false representation and two counts of theft by swindle. He cut two power lines going into his house at 16259 State Highway 76, and reattached them with wire nuts so that the polarity was reversed, resulting in the electric meter running backwards.

Judge James Fabian ordered a pre-sentence investigation. Sentencing will be on July 25 at 10 a.m.

The maximum penalty is five years in jail and/or a $10,000 fine.

Citation in sheep killing

Travis Moen of Spring Grove has been charged with owning a dog that killed domestic livestock.

The Houston County Sheriffís Office issued the petty misdemeanor citation on June 3.

Sara Burfield of Black Hammer Township was given a similar citation on April 21 for an incident in which two Rottweilers killed 11 sheep belonging to Burfieldís neighbor, Robert Finnesgard.

Moen pled not guilty to the offense on June 27 and requested a jury trial. Burfield had made the same plea and request earlier. Her trial had been set for June 23, but it was postponed.

A new trial date has not been set. The two cases might be consolidated into one trial, according to court records.
