Girls golf team earns seventh state title
The Caledonia/Spring Grove girls golf team earned its seventh Class A state title Thursday at Izatyís Resort in Onamia.
The teamís score of 686 beat second place Albany by 31 strokes. Visitation of Mendota Heights was third with a score of 739 and Duluth Marshall was fourth with 755.
The team was in first place after the first day of play with a team score of 348. Albany was second with a score of 357.
Jacquelyn Hauser, who was the top player at the end of the first day, finished in fourth place overall. Her scores were 39-38 and 41-39.
Kelsey Kruse shot a 42 and 49 the first day, and a 39-43 the second day.
Meghan Burg shot 45-44 and 41-39.
Katelyn Hauser and Janelle Lilliquist each had totals of 193. Hauser shot 48-49 and 49-47. Lilliquist shot 47-49 and 48-49.
Heidi Welscher shot 49-51 on the first day and 49-47 the second.
The best four scores are used to determine the final score.
Girlsí coach Ken Van Den Boom was inducted this year into the Golf Coaches Hall of Fame. This is the 12th state tournament his teams have appeared at.
