Trial date set in fake kidnapping case

Jessica Lee Spencer, 23, pled not guilty in Third District Court on June 6 to falsely reporting a crime and disorderly conduct, both misdemeanors.

She has requested a court trial, which has been set for July 20 at 4 p.m.

The La Crosse, Wisconsin woman allegedly led local authorities on a wild goose chase after falsely reporting her own kidnapping on May 12. She made the calls from a rural Caledonia home where she was staying.

Jilek to appear June 27

John Bradley ìBradî Jilek, 53, Caledonia, had his June 6 court appearance continued to June 27 at 10:15.

Judge James Fabian granted the continuance at the request of county attorney Rick Jackson and Jilekís attorney, Timothy Murphy.

Jilek is charged with two counts of theft by false representation and two counts of theft by swindle. He hasnít entered a plea.

The electrician was charged on April 19 with cutting two power lines going into his house at 16259 State Highway 76, and reattaching them with wire nuts so that the polarity was reversed, resulting in the electric meter running backwards.
