Jail consultant hired
The Houston County Board voted to hire David Prachar, Jail Consultant, LLC, as jail consultant on June 14 for one year at $2,500 per month.
Prachar will assist the county with the planning, design, construction and transition phases of the jail project.
He will also get bids from architects, look at methods of construction, and analyze staffing needs, plus do many other things listed on the four page contract.
The current county jail, which was built in 1875, contains eight beds for work release, four medium security beds, and two maximum security beds. It cannot house juveniles or females. Two committees have been working on replacing the jail since 1996. Commissioners approved hiring a planner in May.
