Brownsville Days family Celebration this weekend

The Brownsville Lions are sponsoring their annual Brownsville Family Celebration Friday-Sunday, June 24-26 at the ballpark.

Fridayís events include a co-ed softball game at 7 p.m. There will be entertainment by the Brownsville All Stars, which is like a local talent show that includes Melvin and Lorene Miller; Bob ìMitchî Mitchell and Kenny Reed; Carl, Emily, and Rick Denstad; Joe Macejik; Kenny Vincent; and others. ìUncle Binky,î a local band, will also be playing Friday night.

Saturdayís events start at 9 a.m. at the ballfield with the softball tournament. Adult kickball will take place at noon and 4 p.m. There is a beanbag tournament at 1 p.m. Music from 8-midnight by Breakdown concludes the day.

Sunday starts with a 9:30 a.m. ecumenical church service at the community center, featuring the Coulee Region Gospel Choir.

The softball tournament resumes at 10 a.m.

The ìChicken-Qî begins at 11 a.m. at the community center, and goes until all the food is gone.

The fire department will have an open house from 11 a.m.-1:30 p.m. The Med-Link helicopter from Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center in La Crosse will be there from 11:30-12:30 unless they are on a call.

Adult kickball will take place at noon and 3:30 p.m.

The parade is at 1 p.m. Line-up starts at noon by Bissenís Tavern. Late entries are welcome, but people are encouraged to call organizer Barb Hurley at 482-6873 ahead of time if possible. It will go up Main Street and end at the west end of the city.

A horseshoe tournament is at 2:30 p.m., along with a raffle drawing.

Kids programs

Brownsville Days has events for children too. At noon on Saturday there is a sand pile where kids can find money in the sand. At 3 p.m. there is an egg toss.

On Sunday there will be an inflated bouncer from 11 a.m.-4 p.m. at the ballpark.

At noon a childrenís parade will go from the community center to 8th Street. Register at 11:30.

Following the main parade, children can go on ìKaptain Kirbyî train rides.

There will be hotdogs, pizza, pop, and beer at the park. No carry-ins will be allowed.
