Man sentenced in cow shooting incident
A New Albin man who shot and killed a cow and calf last August in Jefferson Township was sentenced in District Court on June 20.
Jarrett Richard Meyer, 18, pled guilty on November 17 to a felony charge of criminal damage to property in the first degree and a misdemeanor charge of cruelty to animals.
Fillmore County Judge Robert Benson sentenced Meyer, who was 17 at the time of the incident, to supervised probation for an indefinite period of time, 100 hours of community service, and in-home detention for 120 days. He must also write a letter of apology to the owners of the animals, Tom and Lynn Reburn.
Meyerís sentence had many other components, including submitting to psychological evaluation and complying with the recommendation; random drug and alcohol testing; and regular school attendance.
Meyer is also scheduled to stand trial in La Crosse, Wisconsin, District Court on August 25 at 9 a.m. for theft and attempted transfer of a stolen firearm.
Bublitz trial set
A jury trial for Mitchell Milton Bublitz, 52, Houston, has been set for August 8 at 9 a.m.
Bublitz pled not guilty to disorderly conduct and fifth degree assault on April 27.
The complaint claims that on March 18, Bublitz pushed the nose of City of Houston snow plow driver Barry Kurtz in Houston, threw snow in Kurtzís face and swore at him. Bublitz was upset with the plowing job that Kurtz had done, and told Kurtz he didnít want him pushing snow in his parking lot at 200 Westgate Drive, the criminal report states.
The disorderly conduct charges stem from an incident four days later in the Houston City Hall between Bublitz, city administrator Larry Jerviss, and city maintenance supervisor Robert Borowiak. The criminal complaint states that Bublitz yelled and blocked Borowiakís way out of the office. Kurtz filed a harassment order against Bublitz following the incident. Bublitz is barred from entering Houston City Hall.
