One arrest made, another pending for burglaries

Dustin James, Saukko, 20, Caledonia, was charged in Third District Court on March 18 with two burglaries in the city on February 22.

Saukko faces four counts of felony theft and two third degree burglary charges. One burglary happened at Caledonia Auto Center, which had miscellaneous tools stolen. The other was at the Caledonia Mini Mall in the former elementary school building. Various items were stolen there, including digital cameras and a laptop computer.

Saukko was arrested after the owner of an apartment saw him trespassing there. Police were called, and did a sweep of the apartment, where they found some of the stolen goods.

Saukko and a juvenile male who lives in the apartment then admitted to the burglaries, the report states. Charges against the juvenile will be filed soon, assistant county attorney Sue Harnack said on March 21.

Saukko is currently in the Houston County jail; his unconditional bail is $20,000. He will appear in court again on March 28 at 10:30.

Meyer sentencing delayed

In other court news, the disposition for Jarret Richard Meyer, of New Albin, Iowa, has been taken off the Third District Court calendar and had not been rescheduled as of March 16, the date that it had been set for.

Meyer pled guilty in the case on November 17 to one count of criminal damage to property in the first degree, a felony, and one county of cruelty to animals, a misdemeanor, for shooting a cow and calf in rural Caledonia last summer.

Foellmi pleads guilty

Jamie Ann Foellmi, 16, pled guilty on March 9 to reduced charge of receiving stolen property as a gross misdemeanor. She had been charged with a felony in the incident, in which Joshua Goetzinger stole a car on January 2 in Caledonia. Foellmi will be sentenced on April 25. Two other counts were dropped in the plea agreement.

Goetzinger, 17, pled guilty to motor vehicle use without consent and theft on February 7. He will be sentenced on March 28 at 3:30.

Armagost admits to violation

Robert Armagost, 21, La Crosse, Wisconsin, admitted to felony probation violation when he appeared in district court on March 16. His case was continued for disposition. No date had been set as of March 16. He is being held in the Houston County jail for felony probation violation.

Armagost pled guilty on June 16, 2004, to one county of criminal damage to property for shooting out the windows of a womanís apartment in La Crescent. He was sentenced on October 14 to 13 months in jail, which was stayed, and to five years of probation. He also had to pay $1,865 in restitution. He broke that probation by not reporting to his probation officer and failing to obtain permission to leave the state. A warrant for his arrest was issued on November 20, and he was arrested by La Crescent police on March 1.

Armagost is also wanted in Warren County, Iowa, for felony burglary third degree contempt hearing. He failed to appear at that so a warrant was issued for his arrest on February 18. He waived extradition on March 16.

Bail set for Ryan

Judge James Fabian set conditional bail at $25,000 for John Dale Ryan, III, 37, La Crescent, on March 9. He was arrested on February 4 and is accused of selling 8.7 grams of marijuana to an undercover officer, and is charged with two felonies for it. His next court appearance will be April 11. He has not entered a plea.
