Edward Nelson
Edward Nelson, 97, died at his home in Spring Grove, on March 23, 2005, after a short bout with bladder cancer.
He was born on August 9, 1907 in Sturgis, SD to Nels and Martha (Berquam) Nelson.
His mother died when he was 8 and he came to live with Berquam relatives in Spring Grove. Later, he moved with them to Badger, MN and then Mankato.
On January 9, 1934, he married Melia Havig, of Spring Grove, at Roseau, MN.
After retirement, they lived in Spring Grove and Caledonia.
ln 1968, he was Sons of Norway lodge president of the year.
In 1960, he was appointed by the Speaker of the House to be Sargeant of Arms at tbe Minnesota Legislature for the 60-62 legislative session.
He is survived by his daughter, Nancy; one sister, Beulah Wanhanen, Nemo, SD; and a brother, John of Spearfish, SD.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Melia in 2000, his parents, and nine siblings
Services will be held Saturday, March 26, at 1:30 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Spring Grove. Burial will be in the Church Cemetery.
Visitation is one hour before the service at the church only.
Roble Funeral Service of Spring Grove is in charge of arrangements.
