Boys golf preview

Caledonia/Spring Grove will have a young and inexperienced boys golf team when the season opens at Southland in Adams on April 8.

Coach Mitch Mullins looks at the youth as a positive thing. Itís exciting to have a young group, he said during practice on March 24. Theyíll get a lot of opportunities to play, he said. ìItís just one of those years.î

Tyler Schulte, a junior, is the only returning letter winner. Others who will be playing include junior Jeremy Myhre, sophomores Chad Tilleraas and Tyler Hauser from Spring Grove, freshmen Alek Eglinton, Craig Loeffler, and Mitchell Massman; and eighth graders Luke Daley and Kyle Runningen.

ìWeíve got numbers with the young kids there,î Mullins, who is starting his 14th year as coach, said. ìThatís what Iím excited about. Watching that improvement as the year goes along will be our big goal.î

Southland appears to be the Three Rivers South conference favorite, Mullins feels, with Rushford a close second. He thinks his team can compete for the top half of the conference.

ìItís going to be challenging for us to do that, but I think we can do it.î
