Sheriffís squad, car collide

A Houston County Sheriffís Department patrol car and another vehicle collided on Sunday afternoon, March 27, on the south side of La Crescent on Highway 16 by the Pine Creek Bridge. According to the Minnesota State Patrol, deputy Michael Ernster was going west when he pulled over to make a U-turn to go after a violator at about 4:15 p.m. He was in the process of executing the U-turn when the accident happened. Two people in the other vehicle, Michelle Ostern, 20, and Ashley Ostern,18, both from Caledonia, were taken by Tri-State Ambulance to Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center in La Crosse, where they were treated and released. The state patrol is doing an investigation, then will turn it over to the Houston County Attorneyís office for review. Photos by Reed Welch
