Joseph H. Schieber, Sr.
Joseph H. Schieber, Sr., 92, of Caledonia, died Tuesday, March 1, 2005 at the Caledonia Care and Rehab in Caledonia.
He was born December 21, 1912, in Caledonia to Alfred and Mary (McKenna) Schieber. ÝJoe attended Loretta High School and graduated from Caledonia High School in 1933. He married Ruth OíNeil on April 17, 1940 at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, LaCrosse.
Joe farmed his entire life west of Caledonia. He retired and moved into town in 1981. He was a 50 year member of the Knights of Columbus, charter leader of the Caledonia Rockets 4-H Club and a member of St. Maryís Catholic Church, Caledonia. He enjoyed golfing, camping, traveling, spending the winters in Texas, and playing cards.
He is survived by his wife of almost 65 years, Ruth of Caledonia, seven children, Joseph (Carol) of Caledonia, Diane Yehle of Brownsville, Thomas of St. Louis Park, MN, Michael (Susan) of Spring Grove, Steven of LaCrescent, Timothy (Pam) of Caledonia and Mark (Christina) of Caledonia; 19 grandchildren, and 15 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by twin brothers, Arnold and Alfred, and two grandsons, Daniel and David.
Services will be Friday, March 4, at 11 a.m. at St. Maryís Catholic Church, Caledonia. Father Gregory Leif will officiate and burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Caledonia. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m., Thursday, at Holy Family Hall, behind St. Maryís Church, Caledonia. There will be a 6 p.m. rosary and a 7:30 p.m. prayer service. Visitation will also be from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday morning at the church before the service.
