BASEBALL: Caledonia has had a good run in baseball lately, going 3-1 in its most recent games.

They lost to Chatfield 8-1 on May 2 at home, then beat Rushford-Peterson 6-2 on May 3. They beat Southland 3-2 on May 5 at home, and beat Wabasha-Kellogg 3-0.

Here are summaries of the games from coach Scott Sorenson.

Chatfield 8, Caledonia 1

They jumped on us early as result of several errors. Things just seemed to snowball out of control on the defensive end. Offensively we just could not get anything going. We combined for a total of 4 hits on the night. Kyle Welscher got the start on the mound and pitched great. That has been the story lately as our pitching is doing its job but our defense is just simply not making the plays right now. Simon Augedahl had a good night at the plate going 2 for 2 and a walk.

Caledonia 6, R-P 2

This was a well played game for us on both ends. We were able to make the plays defensively and put the ball in play on the offensive end. Hitting wise we were really carried by the top of our order. The first five batters combined to go 10 for 18 from the plate. Justin Conway was 2 for 3 and a walk, Kyle Welscher was 3 for 3, Ross Meyer was 1 for 4 with a RBI triple, Nathan Waterhouse was 2 for 4, and Simon Augedahl was 2 for 4. Ross Meyer got the start on the mound and pitched great. He has really become a strong pitcher who keeps the batters off balance. This was a great game for us in that it showed us we can play pretty good when we want to.

Caledonia 3, Southland 2

This was a pitchersí duel as neither team was able to get an earned run until the top of the 7th inning when Ross Meyer tied the game with a lead off solo homerun. That was followed with base hits by Nathan Waterhouse, Simon Augedahl and Zach Gran. We also had a sacrifice bunt by Tyler Augedahl. I was very impressed with the way the kids just kept battling until the end and didn't let the mistakes get to them. It was a very impressive win in that the bottom of the line-up carried us through this one. Simon Augedahl got the start on the mound and looked good. He is still learning what he is capable of and understanding that he is not going to strikeout every batter and that he can rely on his defense. Nathan Waterhouse was the only hitter to get more that 1 hit in this, as he went 2 for 3 from the plate.

ï Coming up: The boys traveled to Kingsland on May 10, then play at La Crescent on May 12. They host Spring Grove on May 13 and Fillmore Central on May 16.
